Visual field testing is an essential part of regular eye care. Your visual field is the entire area you can see when your eyes are focused on one central point, and a visual field test is an eye exam used to check for blind spots or peripheral vision loss. 

During a visual field test, our optometrist, Dr. Christine Kniffen, will determine if you have lost any vision in the side, upper, or lower areas of your visual field. This type of testing is especially critical for individuals who are at high risk of vision loss from eye diseases or other issues.  

People with certain medical conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure are at a greater risk of developing issues with the blood vessels in their optic nerve and retina. Visual field testing allows our doctor to spot early signs of these conditions, preventing vision loss and promoting optimal eye health.

ZEISS FDT visual field screening 

ZEISS FDT (frequency doubling technology) visual field screening is a quick and reliable test that measures your peripheral vision, allowing our eye doctor to detect abnormalities that may indicate glaucoma or other eye diseases. With this non-invasive test, we can diagnose and manage these conditions early to help prevent vision loss. 

During the test, you’ll sit in front of a machine that projects light spots of varying brightness and sizes to different areas of your visual field. You’ll be asked to indicate when you see each spot, which will help our eye doctor determine if you have any areas of vision loss in your visual field. 

After the test is complete, Dr. Kniffen will analyze the data and go over the results with you. If needed, she will develop a personalized treatment plan to fit your specific needs.
